The AfterMath of Friday the 13th.

It seems the week has been more than traumatic for most.  Between taxes, and school shootings and this and that, most people I know want to just pull over and cry.  I had a couple of insanely disturbing days myself.  Monday, for instance, seemed particularly jinxed.

A girl friend and I had a day planned of pure misery, bill paying and paper filing and such.  I drove during the errand running, she spent her time trying to pay her bills on the phone.  Each contact she made brought a new problem.  Oddly enough, her account couldn't be found.  The next call, her bill was 5 times what it should have been.  I didn't fare any better.

I had to make several copies of my presentation for one of the managers.  Then I had to make copies of a stack of my own personal papers for various reasons.  I flew in to Staples, where I knew the little copy elves would soon be doing my bidding.  OR SO I THOUGHT.  Seems head copy elf had called in sick, and the remaining copy elfette, the NEW GIRL, sweet and apologetic though she was (AND on the verge of a hysterical nervous breakdown), explained to me that she could not possibly get to my job for at least a couple of days.  That would just not do.  So I set about to tediously doing my own copying.  I de-stapled and de-paperclipped.  I sorted and collated.  I turned the damn machine on.  BREAKAGE.  Paper jam.  Out of toner.  Paper jam in another area of said machine.  I swear to god, the damn thing broke down about 10 times.  Finally I hugged the sobbing copy elf and told her that I was going to go elsewhere, and not to worry about me.

I eventually got my work done, checking it 4 times to make sure that everything was in order.  We managed to struggle though the other various in town errands we had.  Nothing went easy.  Then off to Coquille to drop off and pick up.  Right past the Halfway, traffic came to a dead stop.  A Koos logging truck had wrecked and was sprawled across the whole highway.  A half hour later, they managed to clear enough logs to let through one lane of traffic for a few moments.  Whee.

Just like a bad squall, the day turned peaceful and serene.  All of our ToDo list had been ToDone.  We stopped at the fruitstand and gathered some goodies.  Sesame sticks, dried cranberries, nuts and fresh broccoli.  Wander over next door to pick up some lovely baskets.

Yay.  Though I walk through the Valley of Coquille, I shall fear the evil.  I walked through that crap all day.

Happy Friday 13!!

Friday 13 is always a pleasant day for me.  I'm sure Derek will agree that it's better than his last Friday.  Last Friday the poor little waif had to have all 4 of his wisdom teeth yanked out.  Although he fared better than most, he was pretty wimpy for about 4 days.  He still cannot eat like a normal human, but he is vastly improved.  Dr. Scott Roberts performed this surgery, and I muchly like him.  It took about 45 minutes.  I couldn't believe it!  Minimal swelling, and the man didn't flinch about providing him with the necessary pain meds.  Which Derek only needed the first evening.  Dr. Scott's office is located at the end of the little road that Kentucky Fried Chicken is on, to the right.  He does implants and stuff too.  And he has some impressive artwork in his waiting room.  Like a lighthouse with a big wave going around it.  Go there to get your toofies ripped out!

Alligator Found In Coos Bay Driveway

"A 3-foot-long alligator was found in Coos Bay on Friday. According to a Coos Bay Police press release, at about 10:50 p.m., a resident on Date Avenue returned home and found the alligator in the driveway."

See, they don't flush them down the toilet on the Oregon coast.  They just throw them out in the street.  Now the cops have it.  Put it in the animal shelter.  Life expectancy:  30 seconds.

Heaven on Oregon

I could tell it was full on spring because I saw so many of those long legged waspy things.  They look just like yellow jackets with really long legs and knobby knees.  They aren't as aggressive as yellow jackets a, however.  We never saw them here until about two years ago.  BIZZARRIO.

I planted the first lemon cucumber plants in the garden today.  I tested out two of them last week, putting them carefully in the edges of the compost pile, where they immediately exploded.  So I thought, what the hell.  And stuck the rest of them in a sweet little row right next to some newly planted rhutabagas.  Soon I will start some more.  The first cherry tomatoes got their third transplanting today.  I got sick of watering them every hour and decided to just put them in bigger pots.

The daffeedils are all done blooming, tulips soon to follow.  Azaleas and roses pick up where they left off.  The spinach is poking its spiky little arms out of the dirt, beckoning frantically, EAT ME! EAT ME!
