I Just Stepped in a Big Pile of Spring

Spring is like a two-layered photoshop picture.  Underneath, the warmth and bountiful growth of summer.  On top, the freezingness of winter, which fogs the entire picture and threatens to blacken every piece of green there is.  Or maybe that's just the sleeping pill talking.  Really though, it's been crazy here.  Early in the morning its frozen and foggy, later in the day sunny, (oh yeah, another week of rain they said, NOT), SUNNY ....  until you step from the SUN into the SHADE where you will once again experience subzero temperatures.

The Greenhouse Update:  My soon to be twice-transplanted red cherry tomatoes have just started putting out flowers with which to make little tomatoettes.  I of course, pinch off these first blooms because I want the plants to get bigger before they become parents.

The jalapeno peppers are slowly putting on their first set of true leaves.  The second wave of mixed lettuce is ready to repot, and the celery is starting to get big enough to see it without a telescope.  The Stevia is sending off new, little plantlets.  I love picking a leaf and making my friends eat it.  *THE SHOCK*, as the intense sweetness ties their tonsils into knots.

I mistakenly filled up all the empty spots in the greenhouse with new seedlings, which did not please her kittiness, who likes to sleep in the greenhouse.  She proceeded to knock off all of the seedlings in a square foot area.  Then she drug my greenhouse washcloth up onto the spot and smoothed it out perfectly fat.  The princess had her throne back.

Welcome to Spring Vacation.

For my spring vacation, I plan on running TOTALLY AMUCK.  Finally I come to the end of my pile of paperwork.  Just bits and pieces are left.  The weather is overcast but WARM.  In the garden many things are exploding.  The first peas, the butterfly bush, leaf lettuce 6 inches tall.  Primroses, carnations, lavender, all in full bloom.  Indoors, the christmas cactus take turns while the hoyas put out their first fleshy sweet flower clusters.

Mr Wyrd and Derek brought me the first clams of the year today.  Mmmmm!  I'm soaking the necks as we speak.  Mr Wyrd is out tearing off the old front porch to build a new and bigger one.  More places for my plants!  Now all I need is a little chimenia out there.  And a waterfall.  And a laptop.  And some tiki decor.  Woohoo!

Oregon WINS AGAIN! ! Woohoo!

Quaaaaackkk!!!!  Woohoo!!  As with any spectacular event, (or really, any event at all), fireworks explode in our neighborhood.  The men in the Wyrd family have already been to see one game together, so the three generations have yet another common bond now.  THE ANNIHILATION OF THE NATION.  I'm jumping up and down with glee myself, inside, where it really counts.  That sweet 16 just turned into an even sweeter 8.  Don't miss the game on Sunday!

Weekend Road Trip

We ventured down to BrookingsLand over the weekend.  We just took a day trip, leaving early and enjoying the view.  It rained and was cloudy, then foggy.  Oregon looked so prehistoric and lovely.  Then the rainbows started.  I must have seen at least 7 of them.  One was a perfectly whole rainbow, a total horseshoe shape right beside me.  Both ends were going into the ocean.  I wanted to sail through it.  BEATLES SONGS PLAYED IN MY MIND.

Then we hit the SUN.

Once in Brookings, we sneaked up on the gimp and his lovely princess Ashley.  We went to the Onion Grill Restaurant, and age huge pancakes with gallons of strawberries and whipped cream on them.  We drove to the beach and stood around and looked at each other.  Then we sat on a log.

Our visit was much too short.  Already we plan our next journey south.  Til then I watch my lavender bloom and my peas sprout their little pea arms out of the dirt.

Every Day is Green Day in Oregon

Of course, all that could change if, (though it seems when), LNG comes in here.  It can burn people within a mile!  Isn't that interesting!  GOOD GOD.

I really like this guys plan for a 10 day survival pack for your car.  You never know when you might break down or even get stuck in traffic for an extended amount of time.  Those of you who possess children know how important things like a little water and a goody might be to a screaming, grumpy little toddler.

If you want to tie your shoes decoratively, this is the place to learn to do it.  I'm doing this to my shoes immediately.   I think I will do it to Derek's shoes too, behind his back.  I want to see the look on his face when he notices.  If you want to learn a bit more about shoe laces, give this site a look.

In parting, may I share with you some cat haiku

Thars a Leprechaun in my Pants

If the Irish are so goddamn lucky, why did so many die during the potato famine?  And those damned Irish are STILL dying.  We might notice that if we were't so busy throwing ourselves on landmines.

The really GOOD thing about today, is that it is Ashley's Birthday.  Current Azalea Princess, Future Azalea Queen, Future President, concubine of the Gimp.  I shall adopt her and teach her the ways of Wyrd.  There are important truths she must know:

Kitty collars are cheap jewelry.

Barbies are more important than anything.

Machine Guns are for GIRLS.

Summer all Over

That's how it's been.  Yesterday there was a biting cold wind behind the sun, and then it frosted up last night.  Today is bright and sunny.  Gimp says that its been 80 something in Brookings.  So I guess you know where my next mini vacation will be.

Seems like there has been lots of high drama all around me.  So today I stay home and nest.  I spent FIVE HOURS ON THE PHONE yesterday, between friends and family members.  FIVE!!!  Good lord.  All this stuff makes me nervous, so I turn to my favorite form of psychotherapy, cleaning and cooking, and GOOD GOD MY HOUSE NEEDS IT.  I already have a batch of snickerdoodle dough in the fridge and a huge meatloaf in the freezer.  MORE COOKING TO FOLLOW.

In the meantime I search for a good Sci Fi movie to blare in the background and keep me company, as I diddle in my own little lovely world and converse all morning with Pril on the computer.  Derek is still in Ashland for his school function and calls home intermittently.  Kitty meows and reminds me that this is her last day for medication.  Thank. God.

My Continued Obsession With the Cat

It started last Thursday night.  About 8 p.m. we realized that kitty had been silent for over an hour and had probably been left outside.  Derek opened the front door and found her sitting in the doghouse on the porch, looking very forlorn.  All of the sudden she gimps on in the house, and Derek starts screaming, "MOM HER LEG IS BROKE!"  I go.  I look.  Yes, she is laying there pittifully.  Yes her leg looks swollen and bent funny.  Yes she will NAIL YOUR ASS if you touch it.  Two hundred and Fifty dollars later we have her home.  She had an abcess from a puncture wound from BEATING the LIVING HELL out of every cat on our block.  Oh, but we got off lucky.  She responded to antibiotics.  Had she not, had they been forced to perform surgery, it would have been an easy $600.  Oh, but thank god it wasn't broken!  That's $800 - $1,200, unless of course, it wasn't a perfectly clean and lined up fracture, THEN you are talkin BIG BUCKS BAYBE!

But kitty is fine, why just yesterday she was swirling aobut in the top of my neighbors apple tree, like a tasmanian devil on crack.  Apparently some stray cat didn't realize that our black and white diva is the princess of the neighborhood.

Dream Weekend.

How else can a warm sunny couple of days that appear after months of cold and rain be described?  I transplanted my little lettuce seedlings, cleaned up and rearranged some in the greenhouses.  Mr. Wyrd made a new compost spot for me. so I flattened down the old one and smoothed some dirt over it.  Instant garden space.

Winter Continues To Poop On Coos Bay

Hail, rain, snow, wind, cold.  You know the drill.  It's flooding and pissing ice water everywhere.  I clean and cook and enjoy company for a few days.  It's my Thursday, Friday thing.  I'm making a tummy warming potato / bacon soup for dinner and hummingbird cake with cheesecake frosting for desert.  There's been lots of comfort food going on around here lately.  Roasted Parmesan Chicken with Fettucinne.  Real Parmesan.  Home made bread.  I keep the soups bubbling and the fresh fruit and juice flowing for it is FLU SEASON in these here hills.  OH and lots of good teas too.

IN THE MEANWHILST.  I enjoy finding commercial products such as these.  I know a person or two who would greatly benefit from using these items.  Ok, so the rest of us would benefit from them using these items.  Whatever.  If you need a REASON to use such a product, perhaps finding out what other people have accomplished by your age would be helpful.  While you do that I will be planning my retirement.  (Thanks to Kodiak for that first link).
