Oregon AKA ARIZONA

Today, much like yesterday, just like my 3rd and last day of camping, was HELACIOUSLY HOT.  Over 90 + degrees.  Lovely sunrises and sunsets.  We are experiencing a common phenomena around here, called the First Weeks of School Weather.  It's the kind of thing everyone waits for, but can rarely take advantage of.  Except for me.  I languish on the porch and visit.  Sip cold caramel and chai tea lattes.  A creamy Java chip with whipped cream.  A light soup or salad for dinner and some home made popsicles or ice cream for dessert.

I can't make myself think of anything any more serious than how I'm going to decorate for Halloween.  Nevermind that all the local politicians are rooting for the LNG, despite loud protests and major concerns.  Nevermind that when it goes in, the door will be open for every industrial operation known to mankind.  Who cares that the average citizen can no longer afford land around here.   All that can wait.  I'm enjoying the peaceful moment.

Day Two of the Safari

Swept the camp to keep from dragging crap into the sleeping zones.  De-silked the corn and wrapped it and the scrubbed potatoes in tin foil.  Cut and seasoned the steaks.  Chopped up salad goodies.  Took a little drive and brought back another load of firewood.  Sent the kids off to swim and built a huge-assed fire.  The boys have been filming their own personal version of "Jackass".  Example:  friend of Derek does backflips until he finally gets dizzy, falls over, and about breaks his damn leg off.  At night they recreate various scary movies.  I'm glad we brought them along to amuse us.

The crawdad hunting was a bit slim, the boys only brought back seven of the mini lobster-like creatures.   Little piles of dead shells in the creek attest to the lives of the previous occupants.

We picked an excellent weekend to camp it seems.  The fun festival happened this weekend, pretty much clearing the park out.  Only two groups of campers besides us.  Now that dinner is ready to go, we will herd the children to the showers when they come back, then start the cooking fest.  In the meantime, we sit, we talk, we drink coffee, we ENJOY.

My Summer Vacation

I did not fix my laptop yet EITHER so I was forced to record my existence with a stick and a rock whilst I was away.

Camping:  Day One:

Ah yes, a beautiful camping day up at Laverne Park.  Mr Wyrd and I made our morning haul of firewood after being charged (robbed) of $20 for 4 (oompah loompah sized) wheel barrow full of wood from our local camp hosts.  We drove into the forest where logging has taken on a new and frantic frenzy.  Slash piles everywhere.  We need not pay for tree fuel again.  Currently, the children are out hunting for crawdads with a found scooby doo pole, a hot dog and my dish pan.  Mr. Wyrd is assembling his pump up pellet gun.  "Whatcha gonna kill?" I ask.  "The kids?"  "Gimme one reason not to", says he.  I think.  "Nope.  Can't."

It rained briefly but considerably the night we got here.  The kids, nonetheless, slept out in the tent.  Not a drop touched their little teenage selves.  For our campground is covered extensively by a patchwork of various sized tarps, secured with a carefully woven web of ropes from tree to tree, (and in some cases, car to car).  "I should have got some bigger tarps!", proclaims Mr. Wyrd.  "I coulda covered this whole area!"  Area meaning, a whole acre and half the creek.

I too sit and ponder the things I "should have brought", but left in the spirit of "I always bring waaaay too much stuff".  My kitty pajama bottoms.   More blankets.  More pillows.  More crackers, (found them).  A better F-ing coffee pot than THIS one.  And my digital camera software is STILL not resolved on my computer.  But if you wait until you are "truly ready" to do something, you never do anything.  There comes a time when you have to just stop, pack the car, and drive away.

Dreams of Crawdads in Our Heads

Most of the groceries packed.  Finishing up the massive gallon of home made salsa, made with the FINEST of locally grown ingredients.  Five kinds of lovely peppers.  Steaks, hotdogs.  Fresh fruit, dried fruit.  Then the vitamins:  A multitude of chips, cookies, candy bars and marshmallows.

I'm doing last loads of laundry and throwing in some last minute things.  LIKE EVERYTHING I OWN.  Hope it all fits in the car.

Today was actually a hot, sunny day.  Many of me chicka friends decided to come hang out and watch me chop salsa and pack.  We drank coffee and caught up with each other's lives.  Lorrie came out and hung too Pril!  She looks all healthy and wonderful and happy.  Which is the best any of us can hope for.

I Think I Need a Uhaul

Aka, can a person pack too much food for camping?  I know we will only be gone a couple of days but it kind of looks like enough food to feed a small army for a week.  That's the way camping is.  You pack way too much of most stuff, and only forget things that are really important.  Our weather forecast is changing by the hour and my parents just messaged me from the Charleston hill and claimed the first rain sighting.  We don't let a little rain stop us.  We are Oregonian!

Sailing Towards My Camping Weekend

Yes.  That will be me.  Ms Camper.  Along with the Mr, the Derek, and the friend of Derek.  And whoever else happens to just show up.  Which would be the Wyrd parents.  Would be if they were not also off on their own little vacation.  So are a few of our close friends.  Some had a hard time setting up help back on the home front, because usually, we all watch each others houses.  NOT THIS WEEKEND THOUGH.  We are the lucky ones really.  We have good friends who live right behind us.  We have a watchful group of neighbors.  Living next to security freaks doesn't hurt either.  Anyway.  About the camping.  Laverne Park, cabin, good food, be there.  Show up Pril.  I double dare you.

Weather Update

After a bit of fog in the morning, almost a perfect day.  Warm, sunny, and only moderately breezy in the afternoon. I had to run some errands in the morning and even the traffic was good.

Incase you are looking for some interesting viewing, you can go here to order yourself some candy scabs for Halloween, or here to play your favorite songs backwards and look for Satanic messages.

Friday Mornings Are My Friend

Nice, perfect weather.  Miss TnT brought me coffee and we sat on the porch and talked to other people on the phone.  CONFERENCING.  Yeah.  Then my parents came and took me to an estate sale up Libby Loop.  It sucked, don't go.  Nonetheless we had fun.  I have been almost totally unproductive.  IT'S GLORIOUS.  But I have managed to write my Elvin name.

Fall Is Landing On My Garden

My holiday was wonderful.  I cooked and cleaned a bit and mostly layed around.  Backyard fires, movies, playing on the web with Derek.  Teriyaki marinated chicken.  Corn on the cob.  Hot dogs.  Popcorn.  Cake.  Then a most busy week.  First day of school for the young one.  Mostly good for him, but always a bit of a stress at first.  He is sad that the alligator man died.  That was his kitty's favorite show.

During the day, things get scorchy from the heat (IF there is sun).  At night, it’s cold, damp, fungal.  It's time to start killing things in my garden.  Those that are producing mutant, rotting zucchini.  Time to start digging up anything I want to move.  That crowded blueberry plant.  The humongous rosemary bush that is getting too much shade.  The day lilies that aren't neat enough to have a permanent place in my backyard garden space.  They shall be moved to the driveway bordering garden.  Where I can basically ignore them and let them grow.

I Labor, Therefore I Am

Or something like that.  So for TWO DAYS STRAIGHT.  It's been cloudy.  Very cloudy.  Oh its been warm, but not a ray of sun in sight.  If the sun did come out, we would certainly scorch to death.  Much like Pril is.  I talked to her yesterafternoon, and she said it looked like thunderstorms were coming in the wild Klamath Fall area.  I miss my Prilness!  I miss her grouchy assed sunglass wearing hungover butt on my porch for coffee in the morning.  Talks about all the local gossip, (deer in the road, porcupine quills hanging out of the cats mouth, how well, or how not well the local news newscaster can enunciate).  Ah well.  Soon she says.  It could be worse.  We could be eating gorilla glue or something.

Ok I Lied

It was really 95 degrees on my porch.  Some of my plants simply melted.  A bit of warm southerly wind.  Rain says my step mommy.  WE SHALL SEE.  Everyone must be running for the coast though.  Traffic was horrible.  It's starting to get like other growing too fast towns here.  I'm thinking Bend, for instance.  Lots of new people, add a few THOUSAND tourists.  And you know.  Mayhem.  Tomorrow, all weekend.  All holiday weekend.  We will stay home.  And barbecue.  Water things.  Feed people.  Visit with company and our vacation home neighbors.  Prank phone call family.  GOOD THINGS.

Hot Day On The Oregon Coast

And I do mean HOT.  85 degrees on my porch and not a breath of wind.  I'm gearing up for a beach cruise this afternoon with some girlie friends.  Derek will be manning the phone and installing games on the OTHER computer.  Home alone time without mom is fun!  And the other big news of course is that I have managed to post AT ALL.  Now I'm messing with the scripting and installing metatags and all that fun stuff.  I am sure that by this weekend I will have FUBARED this site completely!  I have been so self absorbed with learning all this stuff that I have no idea what has been going on in the world around me.  Is Pril posting?  Is she alive?  If not, well I get her a functioning blog of her own ready before she enters the nursing home?  WHO IS TO BE KNOWING THESE THINGS.
